La família hoover és una família molt desestructurada:
·Olive: És la protagoista. ës una xiqueta, no molt guapa, que vol amb totes les seues forces ser "Petita miss Sunshine". Ella te confiança en si mateixa i no es deixa frenar a pesar de tots els obstacles que trobarà la seua família al llarg del seu viatge al concurs.
·Dwayre: És el germà de Olive, un adolescentque sols te una meta: ser pilot. La seua família no està d' acord en apuntar-lo a la acadèmia i per aquesta raó no vol parlar fins que l' apunten. Lograrà ser pilot?
·Pare: És un autèntic fracasat. Ha intentat crear un llibre de 9 pasos per a ser un trionfador pero no logra vendre-lo.
·Mare: ës la més normal i intenta crear ordre en la família.
·Frank: És el germà de la mare, És gay y ha intentat suicidar-se per una depressió amorosa.
·Iaio: És adicte a esnifar y el van echar de la residència pel seu comportament.
